About
Varkidora
Varkidora began as a personal frustration shared between three lifelong hikers. Too many bags
promised durability and comfort but fell apart halfway through the journey or simply didn’t adapt
to real-world trail challenges. We refused to accept that compromise should be the price of
adventure.
So we built something different. What started as a basement project soon evolved into a small
workshop in Brisbane. We listened not to market trends, but to hikers — solo trekkers crossing the
Kimberley, family campers in the Dandenongs, alpine climbers braving Tasmania’s peaks. Their
stories became the blueprint for our designs.
We focus on what the trail teaches: every gram matters, every strap must serve a purpose, and
weather is indifferent to marketing promises. Our backpacks and duffels are stripped of gimmicks
and packed with quiet innovations born from field testing, not theory.
Where Varkidora gear earns its miles
-
Sydney’s rugged outskirts and sandstone labyrinths
Sydney’s trail network is a testing ground where coastal cliffs meet dense bushland, demanding versatility from every piece of gear. Varkidora packs are trusted by climbers who navigate the sandstone outcrops of the Royal National Park and hikers crossing the challenging sections of the Coast Track. The ever-shifting coastal weather can turn a clear morning into wind-lashed storms, and our materials stand ready for it all. Lightweight frames reduce fatigue on steep ascents, while reinforced seams ensure your gear holds together through rough scrambles. Whether you’re a day hiker or pushing into multi-day treks, our backpacks adapt to the unpredictability of New South Wales trails.
-
Brisbane’s humid forests and creek crossings
The subtropical zones around Brisbane present a unique set of trials — humidity that tests fabric resilience and river crossings that threaten less prepared gear. Varkidora backpacks feature ventilation systems that keep airflow moving, reducing the discomfort of moisture-heavy hikes. Our waterproof liners and quick-drain compartments are essential for those tackling the rainforest trails of D’Aguilar National Park or navigating Enoggera Creek. In this region, preparation isn’t optional. Our equipment gives adventurers the peace of mind that their essentials will stay dry and intact, no matter how unpredictable the Queensland wilderness becomes.
-
Melbourne’s urban-wild blend and Victorian highlands
In Melbourne, adventurers transition seamlessly between city life and wild escapes. Cyclists use Varkidora bags for their weekday commutes, trusting the same durability they’ll need when heading into the Yarra Ranges or scaling Mount Feathertop. Changing climates — from dry plains to sudden alpine frost — are challenges our designs embrace. Expandable compartments and weatherproof coatings make gear-swapping and sudden rain showers manageable rather than mission-ending. Our packs aren't just tools; they are an extension of your readiness to explore the varied landscapes Victoria offers.
What our adventurers are saying
-
Lucas T.
Hobart
“Crossing Tasmania’s Overland Track would’ve been a nightmare with my old gear. My Varkidora pack kept everything dry even when the rain turned relentless. It’s light, fits like a dream, and after 100 km, not a single sore spot.”
-
Sophie R.
Darwin
“The first thing I noticed was the thoughtfulness of the design. On my solo trek through Kakadu, the breathable back panel was a lifesaver in the humidity. The durability is obvious, but it’s the comfort that truly surprised me.”
-
Erin P.
Brisbane
“What sold me wasn’t just the gear, but the support. The team answered my questions about sizing and fitting before my Fraser Island hike. You don’t get that kind of service from big box brands.”
